I posted a few days ago about being nominated for some lovely awards by some lovely bloggers. So, I was feeling all loved and appreciated and blog-like…which inspired me to stay up late and get all caught up on the latest posts on some of my favorite bloggers. I went to read Cellulite Looks Better Tan and saw that Mandi had been nominated for the Leibster award as well. I found out so many interesting things about her as I read through her post – and then I saw she had named ME as one of HER nominees (and she said some wonderful things about me. I love you too, Mandi!)
You may think you already know all about me from reading my last post – you may really wish I would not share any more information about myself, what I like, or how I think. I get the fact that you might not find me as fascinating as I find myself – so if that is the case, just head on to the next blog on your list. I won’t be offended, as long as you come back in a couple of days to read my next story (it’s going to be uplifting, inspiring, and maybe even a little educational – I promise!)
For those of you who just can’t get enough information about me – here we go:
1) Who is number one on your exemption list? (An exemption list is a list of people who are not in your everyday life (celebrities, authors, sports figures) who you’re allowed to sleep with should the opportunity arise)
I have had a little crush on Adam Levine for some time. While he is super hot, unless he is into dating grannies, it’s just not to be between the two of us. I hold out hope he’ll dump his super-model girlfriend and realize that his one true love is my daughter, even if that makes me a slightly pervy mother-in-law.
2) What is your favorite smell and why?
I don’t even need to think about this one – jasmine, hands down. If I catch a whiff, it makes me stop in my tracks and inhale as deeply as I can. The smell just makes me happy. I don’t find the actual plant to be very attractive (this picture is not the norm), but sometimes you need to look past physical beauty and just enjoy the aroma – that could be a valuable life lesson that applies to more than just jasmine!
3) What book can you read over and over again?
I love to read, but I rarely read a book more than once. There are so many books out there just waiting for me – I’d rather spend my time to find new authors and stories. I do occasionally re-read a book – usually years later and usually prompted by a movie release. For example, I just finished re-reading the Hunger Games books after seeing Catching Fire – because I realized I had forgotten so much about what happened. Same thing happened with The Lord of the Rings series.
4) What is the story behind your blog name?
My daughter actually came up with the name of the blog. I had asked for suggestions and she reminded me how my mother often retold stories over and over. In mom’s defense, she has five children and so it’s easy to forget which story she told which kid. Quite a while ago, I realized I was doing the same thing – so I told my kids that if I started to tell them a story they’ve already heard, they had my permission to interrupt me and let me know. Thus, “Stop Me If I Told You This…”
5) What is your favorite song and why?
My whole life revolved around music for 16 years when I was a radio announcer, so there are so many songs I love. It’s hard to narrow down, but one of my all-time favorites is Don’t Dream It’s Over by Crowded House. I find it to be emotion provoking and poignant.
6) What is your least favorites song, the one that makes your put your fingers in your ears and say “lalalalala”?
Practically anything by Taylor Swift. If I have to hear We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together one more time, I can’t be responsible for my actions.
7) What’s the best book you’ve read lately?
Ohhh, there are too many to pick from. I just finished Bossypants by Tina Fey. I laughed out loud on several occasions.
8) What did the last text you sent say? Word for word.
“You are LEGAL!” In response to my daughter texting me a picture of her new birth certificate. See, I named her “Cheron” at birth, but right after I got home, I decided that looked too much like “Chevron” (the gas station). So, I added another “R” to her name (Cherron) – but I neglected to inform the state of that fact. So for years, she always had two names – the name she used at school, for her driver’s license, and taxes – and then the legal name with one “R” on her military ID, passport, and social security card. After more than two and a half decades, she finally got fed up with that, petitioned the state to change her birth certificate – and SUCCESS!
9) What gives you the heebie jeebies?
Nails on a chalkboard…and spiders. Spiders running their tiny fingernails down chalkboards — that’s the worst!
10) Do close talkers bother you? If so, why?
YES!! There is a personal BUBBLE people, and mine might be a little larger than normal. RESPECT THE BUBBLE!
11) What are you wearing? I’m not even kidding.
Black pajamas and a new, super soft and cozy chenille robe. This is not really surprising – the first thing I do when I get home from work each night is take of the makeup, rip off the bra, and put on the pajamas….ahhhhhhh! I refuse to take them off unless I have to go back to work or to the grocery store (and I admit, I have gone to the grocery store at least once wearing my pajamas – yes, I’m one of THOSE people – but my jammies are solid black, so surely they just look like yoga pants – right?)
One of the other things I’m supposed to do is nominate other bloggers I think are deserving of this fine award. What I’ve found is that nearly every blogger I read and love have already received the Leibster – but I’m still going to mention them, because they make my day brighter:
Aussa at Hacker Ninja Hooker Spy She was the first person to ever comment on my blog, giving me hope that someone other than my family might find my stories interesting and entertaining. She is also just a fabulous and funny writer and has stories of her own that will BLOW YOUR MIND!
Steph at We Don’t Chew Glass. She is funny, and her stories make it clear that her husband and kids are also funny. She had me with, “I once suffered attempted ear-rape by two large Doberman Pinschers. Simultaneously” How can you not keep reading after an intro like that???
Beth at Writer B is Me . I just found her blog a few weeks ago, when she did a guest post at Aussa’s site. She has no problems with oversharing – I like that in a person!
Maurnas at Cursitivity . Her tagline is: For when your fucked up childhood stops fucking you up and starts making you laugh. Isn’t that where we all want to end up?
Kelly at The Rheel Daze The Rheel Daze I discovered her, fell in love with her stories…and then her site was down. I went through withdrawal for several weeks – and then was finally able to get a fix when she came back with an even better site!
And of course, Mandi at Cellulite Looks Better Tan . Not only did she nominate me for my second Leibster, but she is a funny, feisty gal and, although she has only been blogging for a few short months, she is way more famous than me (so I hate her just a tiny bit – but I also love her, so now I’m really feeling guilty and confused). Read her first post ever and you’ll be hooked.
