I’m writing this while sitting on a plane on my way to Washington DC, where I’ll visit with family for a few days before heading out for the first leg of my big adventure.
I’ve paid all my bills. My car is in the shop getting beautified after an unfortunate and unprovoked battle with another car. My ex has graciously agreed to guard my house, feed the cats, water my plants, and collect the mail. And I have my passport in my handy-dandy pickpocket proof travel purse (I know I’m tempting fate saying that – but I’m feeling a bit wild and reckless).
My phone is the only electronic that I’m taking with me – so writing updates may be a challenge…or super easy. Who knows? But this journey is one of many firsts for me. I’m basically just wading into unknown waters and assuming I won’t drown. I’m a strong swimmer – so I’m optimistic that I’ll enjoy the dip.
My backpack is too heavy, but everything in it seems absolutely necessary – I mean, how would I survive without my eyelash curler and mascara? When I get to my daughter’s place I’m going to have to cull out 2-3 pounds worth of stuff. If I can get it down to 18 pounds, I’d be ecstatic! Who needs a first aid kit?
Daughter #1 is abandoning her children to come with me on for the first two weeks. I’m kidding, of course – don’t call the child protective folks – the kids will be safe and happy with their dad and other grandma.
We will have a whirlwind adventure to three different countries and plan to see many castles and eat copious amounts of delicious regional specialties. She is not coming on the hike across Spain with me – daughter #2 is my hiking gal and she couldn’t make it this time (but another hiking adventure is planned for 2020 with her).
The plane is landing and family awaits, so I’ll sign off for now. If you actually read this later, that’s a good sign that I figured out the whole blogging by phone bit and more stories will be sure to follow.
PS – Hurrah! Posting success!!
